Baughurst pub/restaurant scoops further accolade

The Wellington Arms features in the book Kitchen Garden Experts by Cinead McTernan (£20, Frances Lincoln), along with celebrated chefs such as Raymond Blanc of Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall of River Cottage.
The book, published on May 1, features the chefs and gardeners at 20 UK restaurants, hotels, pubs and cafés, focusing on the kitchen gardens and fresh local produce grown there.
The Wellington Arms prides itself on homegrown, organic food, rearing its own free-range chickens, pigs and sheep in the grounds, as well as keeping its own bees and tending a large kitchen garden, complete with polytunnel, where salad grows all year round.
Manager Simon Page said they were “very fortunate” to have been included in the new book.
He added: “At the moment the sheep are lambing, which is always so exciting.”
“The garden is starting to burst into leaf and bloom and we are completing an extension to house a walk-in cool room.”
The pub, which also featured in Diana Henry’s Gastropub Cookbook, Another Helping, has a string of awards to its name, including the Best Pub Chef of the Year 2011 which was bestowed on the chef,Jason King.
