Be prepared for another 30 years - Compton Scouts hut renewal joy
The existing lease on the land ran out in January and after an 18 month project to get it renewed the 1st Compton Scout Group has received the good news.
A spokesman for the scout group, Keith Simms, said the Institute for Animal Health at Compton own the land but despite their on-going withdrawal from the site had generously agreed to renew the rent of £1 per year and granted lease on the wooded area adjacent to the hut, which is sued every day by about 120 youngsters a week.
“It is a fantastic resource which allows us to provide great experiences and adventure for the young people which we would struggle to provide at another location,” he said.
“I would like to thank Gardner Leader in Newbury for their legal assistance in pursuit of renewed leases. They really did help us out and at a fraction of what they should have charged.
Now we have the land and building for another 30 years at least, we are looking at options on how the facilities can be improved and provide a great Community Youth resource for future generations.”
