Student organised show on college open day

Beautiful pooches will put their best paws forward to boost charity funds at a dog show organised by students as part of a May open day at Newbury College on Saturday May 16 - with lots more.

For the second year in a row, animal care students at Newbury College are organising a charity dog show and dog owners are invited to enter their lovely dogs, with all proceeds to the National Dogs Trust and RSPCA.

The competition includes six categories: most obedient, best groomed, most accurate on an obstacle course, cutest big dog, cutest little dog, and waggiest tail, with rosettes for the winners.

The students are organising the event as part of their skills project, which helps them to put into practice skills they have learnt on their course.

Skills Project co-ordinator, Sian Ellis, said: “Following last year’s successful Dog Show, the Animal Care students are aiming to raise even more money for charity this year, whilst embracing their love of animals. The event will also build on their vocational skills and prepare them for future employment”.

Members of the public are welcome and dog show competitors should register online via the college’s website by Saturday (May 2), with a £2 charge, per dog, to be paid on the day.

The open day, from 10am to 1pm, will include information about courses at the college, in Monks Lane, alongside activities including an arts and crafts exhibition, facial and massage demonstrations, West Berkshire and North Hampshire Open Studios 2015 Art Exhibition and outdoor camp crafts.
