Beenham villagers gather to welcome in Christmas

Last year was the village’s inaugural lights switch-on, which was organised by parishioner Rhona Austin and funded by the parish council.
Mrs Austin once again organised this year’s event, with help from parish councillor John Thurley.
Following on from a Christingle service at St Mary's Church, there was a candle lit procession through the village.
Mince pies and mulled wine were served by the village Women’s Institute and Friendship Club, while the Beenham Band play a number of Christmas songs before the lights were switched on.
Mrs Austin said: “John and I enjoy working together to put on village events that give all residents the excuse to meet and celebrate together.
“We’re happy that it seemed to have gone well again, with about 150 villagers in attendance.
“There was a real community spirit and the tree lights are a happy welcome home each evening.”
This year’s tree has been donated by the Beenham Investment Group from Greyfield Wood.
