Bucklebury residents raise a glass at annual beer festival
After a soggy start, the sun came out for the afternoon at Bucklebury Beer Festival – and so did the crowds.
The beer festival returned to the Village Recreation Ground on Saturday, August 24, with a day of music, local beverages and live music in aid of local charities.
The event included a slide, bouncy castle, football game, coconut shy, splat the rat, sand art, a dog show and beers and ciders provided by Renegade Brewery, Indigenous Brewery and Tutts Clump, to name a few.
Half of all proceeds will be donated to local charities, including the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), Reading and West Berkshire – which sold out of cakes in the tea tent.
All proceeds from the tea hall were donated to the MNDA, a charity focused on improving access to care for people affected by the rare condition which targets parts of the nervous system.
“We’re very grateful to those who turned out,” said Jane Gilbert, publicity officer for the MNDA, Reading and West Berkshire.
“Unfortunately, one of our fundraisers out on the recreation ground had her tent blown away in a gust of wind and she was forced to go home to dry out her goods.
“A few other stallholders were also rushing for towels to mop up.
“Despite this, sunny smiles ruled the day and we’re delighted with the amazing support and MND awareness.”
Pop rock band M and The Metros opened and closed the show with a set list of tunes ranging from the 1960s to the 1990s.
