Berkshire Buddhist community celebrate 10 year anniversary on Newbury

Monks perform special blessing

BUDDHISTS from across Berkshire came together on Sunday to mark 10 years of gatherings with a special ceremony in Newbury.

The event, in Digby Road, was attended by three Buddhist monks who had travelled from the Wat Phra Singh temple in Runcorn to perform a special blessing during the celebrations.

More than 60 Buddhists attended the event, which has been organised by Noi Davis every year since 2006.

The group, made up mostly of Thai nationals, has been meeting once a year at the home of Mrs Davis to celebrate the religion and culture.

Mrs Davis, who also did all the catering for the event, said: “We’ve been celebrating for 10 years with Thai people from all over Berkshire.

“It’s important that you don’t forget your culture.

“It was a wonderful day and the weather was like three seasons all in one day – we had rain, cloud and sun.”
