Berkshire organisation launch scheme to help reduce divorce costs
Government figures show that mediation is four times cheaper and quicker than going to court, but some couples still want advice from their own solicitor.
Working in partnership with Thames Valley Family Lawyers Society, Berkshire Family Mediation has negotiated reduced solicitors fees for legal advice alongside mediation.
Manager of Berkshire Family Mediation, Roger Vaughan said: “Couples choose mediation because they want to resolve issues quickly and fairly, but they are often put off seeing a solicitor because of worries about legal fees. Our scheme means clients can choose to see a solicitor to support them in the mediation process. “
Berkshire resident, Matt Rider, who used the services of Berkshire Family Mediation in his divorce proceedings, said: “I needed professional help to reach a settlement that was fair to us both and would provide for and protect our son - but was worried about how much this would cost using solicitors.
“We had three meetings with the same two mediators who offered friendly, impartial support and documented everything for us. I would thoroughly recommend mediation - it saved us so much pain and worry - and a great deal of money too”.
