Berkshire Youth holds its first accessible climbing session at Waterside Centre Newbury
Berkshire Youth’s Waterside Centre in Newbury has held its first accessible climbing session.
The session – held on Friday, September 22 – was an opportunity for those less able to try something new and challenge themselves in a safe environment.
Three young people with physical disabilities were supported to climb the wall using specialist equipment and the expertise of instructors.
Berkshire Youth said the evening was a great success with young people challenging themselves and reaching new heights that they hadn’t expected.
It said the event showcased the valuable partnership between a number local organisations and charities.
These groups are Partners for Active Leisure Scheme West Berkshire (PALS), Thatcham disabilities centre Swings & Smiles and outdoor activity organiser Cloud9 Pursuits.
Berkshire Youth said it believes climbing should be available to all young people and it is pleased to now be able to provide this at the Waterside Centre.
