Best eats in the house
The Corn Exchange recently threw a lunchtime reception in the balcony bar to celebrate their new caterers, Ivana and Paul Barclay, pictured above.
The couple, who have taken over under the name The Coffee House are no strangers to café culture.
They ran the British Council café in Ecuador for two years, after discovering that it was closed when they were back-packing through the country and “just really needed a cup of English tea”.
Back on home soil, they refurbished the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust’s Stone Building on the Wharf and opened it as The Teashop by the Canal in 2009 and it has become a thriving business. Ivana’s love of home-cooking comes from her North Italian roots – she can remember her grandmother always standing over the stove – and her Anglo-Italian background influences her menu.
Reception guests enjoyed a large selection of mouth-watering canapés, which showed off her inventiveness.
The Coffee House menu offers a good range of food, from goat’s cheese salad to home-made burgers – meat or veggie – all highly satifying, as I can testify.
