Best Online Business win came as a pleasant surprise for No 96

A home and gift business has expressed delight with its win at the Newbury Weekly News Best in Business Awards 2024.

Newbury business No 96 is run by husband and wife Neville and Teresa Glanville with son Jacob Glanville managing the online side of things.

The family took their venture online many years ago in a bid to showcase Mrs Glanville’s furniture painting.

In the early days, the business - which has another store in Tilehurst - made online sales using a click and collect method.

But the pandemic made this harder with them having to turn their front room into a warehouse.

“It looked like an Amazon storeroom,” Mr Glanville said.

“We were selling furniture paint but we needed a means to sell it.

“It was lockdown so it [painting] was the perfect activity to do.

“And it went crazy, I am glad we had a website.”

They also utilised websites like eBay and Amazon and the business went from strength to strength.

Son Jacob attended the business awards and his father Neville said they were surprised with the win.

“It was not expected,” he said.

“But it was a pleasant surprise.”
