Big crowd for classic car show
Almost 1,000 vintage vehicles were on show at the annual West Berkshire Classic Vehicle Club show yesterday (Sunday)
THERE were nearly 1,000 vintage vehicles on show at Newbury Racecourse at the weekend for the annual West Berkshire Classic Vehicle Club show.
This year's show was the 19th and was held in memory of the club's president, Dave Mills, who died last month.
Hundreds went through the gates yesterday (Sunday) to see commercial vehicles, motorbikes, stationary engines and vintage sports cars.
One of the most interesting vehicles was a 1929 Lancia Dilambda, whose original owner was the Maharajah of Mysore.
The car, the only one of its design in the world, is now looked after by West Berkshire Classic Vehicle Club member, Trevor Pocock of Newbury.
He said: “The car was very innovative for its time. I call it the first people carrier because it has seven seats.
“It also has a great security device, you can lock the gearbox into reverse which makes it difficult to steal.”
