'Big thank-you' for Poppy Appeal

Hungerford raises impressive £19,000 for last year's Royal British Legion appeal

ORGANISERS would like to say a ‘very big thank you' to everyone who supported last year's Poppy Appeal in Hungerford.

Spokeswoman Shelagh Parry said: “With your help Hungerford raised £19,000 – up by £800 from 2009.”

This year is the 90th anniversary of the national Royal British Legion's foundation – and the 80th anniversary of the Hungerford Royal British Legion Branch.

To mark the occasion there will be a dance at the Hungerford Royal British Legion Club on November 5, with all the profits going to the Poppy Appeal.

There wil also be a concert by the Hungerford Town Band in aid of the Poppy Appeal on November 12 in the Hungerford Corn Exchange.

This year Armistice Day falls on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month of the 11th year for the first time. A short ceremony will take place at the Bridge Street War Memorial, with two minutes' silence.

All are welcome to attend.

Remembrance Day will be on Sunday, November 13, at the Bridge Street War Memorial. Bridge Street and High street will be closed at 10.30am to allow the parade to march from the Corn Exchange to the War Memorial and to allow for the usual service.

Remembrance Tide this year will be from Saturday, October 29 until Saturday, November 12.

If you feel that you can spare just over an hour to help to collect for the Poppy Appeal, please contact Shelagh Parry on (01488) 681492.
