Blackbird cafe drew in crowds at launch event earlier this month
Fitted with quaint tables and chairs and decorated with bunting, it bore little resemblance to its former business of 35-years The Bladebone Butchery.
Guests at the opening, on February 1, were greeted with live 1920’s style music by Harry’s Tricks as they headed to support cafe owner Emma Blackman (pictured), aged 37, in her new business venture, following a 13-year career in the footwear industry.
Mrs Blackman said: “From the minute the clock stuck 10am we had a steady queue of customers, I barely left the coffee machine all day.
“This project has taken some time to see it through, however the end result was fantastic and having the opening day with so many excited customers was really motivating.
“The immediate locals are extremely supportive and encouraging for this new little business.
“It’s really rewarding. Sometimes I stand still and just look around and remember how this all started from creative boards via pinterest and various tears I had collected.”
It took Mrs Blackman six months to refirbish the property, with as much of the wood, furniture and materials sourced as locally as possible.
The cafe is open from 8.30am till 4.30pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 2pm on Saturdays.
Between April and September it will also open on Sundays.
