Lambourn flower show and fete




LAMBOURN Flower Show and Fete showcased some amazing local talent this year.

Congratulations are due to villager Cathy Brown, who took on the task of organising the event, which was held on Saturday, August 20.

She said: "The day may have started a bit dull and miserable but soon brightened up when entrants to the Lambourn Flower Show started to turn up with their impressive entries.

"We saw some of the most beautiful flower displays from some very talented ladies in the Valley.

"Dale Taylor stole the show with his amazing range of fruit, veg and plants which won him the Rayners Park Trophy, the Lambourn Horticultural Society Challenge Cup and the Stud Coronation Year Cup for Best Pot Plant in Show.

"Chris Harris was a very close second and judges were impressed with his nine runners beans.

"Ivor Evans swooped in and took the Jim Turner Salver for Best Overall Vegetable with his beautiful onions.

"Dale was not the only talented grower – his wife Val won the Walwyn Cup for Best Cut Flowers in Show.

"Division 3 (handicrafts, baking ,photography and flower arrangements) was won hands down by Helen Richens, scoring an amazing 57 points.

"We hope to see more growers next year, and certainly more young growers, in our newly sponsored Robert Read Young Gardeners Section."
