Blossoms Field favoured for new toddler play area

Newbury town councillors are keen to find a new site, with the current park off Battle Road “coming to the end of its useful life,” as described by services manager Granville Taylor.
The existing toddler playground is located on the English Heritage scheduled monument burial grounds which stipulates the ground on the site cannot be disturbed, except by returning it to its original condition prior to the play area being built.
Mr Taylor said that a search was now underway to find a suitable area.
“There is already a play area for older children in Blossoms Field and following discussions with a local parents group it appears that Blossoms Field would be a more favourable location with the group.”
However, David Fenn (Con. Newbury) stated that a local school had voiced their concern of locating the toddler park so close to a facility for older children, wanting “to be away from the big ones for their noise and their language.”
The council intends to go to public consultation at help arrive at a decision before anything is confirmed.
It is expected to cost in the region of £70,000. The council are over halfway to achieving this, seeking additional funding through fund raising activities and approaching charitable organisations.
