Blue Plaque at London Road Cemetery, marking former Dunston House gets green light

Permission has been granted for the installation of another blue plaque in Thatcham.

The plaque is hoped to sit at the vehicular entrance of London Road Cemetery.

It will recognise the former entrance to what was Dunston House.

The plaque will read: “The Driveway to Dunstan House, Thatcham’s 18th Century Manor House stood near this site.”

Thatcham Town Council approved the recommendation from its heritage working party on Monday, July 31.

The heritage working party is awaiting permission to include imagery of The Waring and Croft Coat of Arms.

Dunstan House, the manor of Thatcham, stood through three generations of family before being demolished in 1801.

Thatcham historian Nick Young once told Newbury Weekly News that the house had various owners and tenants and was auctioned in 1798.

However the estate did not sell and was pulled down.

Its materials were used for other Thatcham landmarks such as the current United Reformed Church.
