Blueberry comes to Newbury: New restaurant opens in Parkway Shopping centre today (Thursday)

Nervous, excited and happy are just some of the emotions felt by the owners of a new restaurant in Newbury.

Blueberry Bistro opened in the Parkway Shopping centre today (Thursday) in the former La’De Kitchen space.

Former beauty therapist Nilgun Demirkiran and friend of just five months Emel Keles are opening the eatery together after deciding on the idea in December.

The pair gave the former Turkish restaurant a lick of paint at the beginning of the year, decided on a fun, new name and re-opened the space in a matter of weeks.

Nilgun Demirkiran got a taste of the industry when working in a friend’s restaurant.

“I always wanted to do something like this,” she said.

“This is my first restaurant.

“We’ve given it a woman’s touch.”

The Turkish mother-of-two added: “We’ll be serving a bit of everything, cold tapas, brunch, pasta, burgers.

“It is a place to have a relaxed time, have a drink, and enjoy the live music.”

The live music will be on every Friday evening and will feature blues, jazz and motown hits.

There is even talk of a Freddie Mercury tribute.
