Thames Valley Police announce discovery in search for missing Newbury man




POLICE searching for a missing Newbury man announced they have discovered a body.

The man, identified only as a 23-year-old named Benjamin, had been last seen on Monday afternoon, August 8, in the Coombe Gibbet area.

This morning, Saturday, Thames Valley Police posted the following statement: "Ongoing efforts to locate a missing man have now concluded following the discovery of a man’s body in woodlands in Combe Gibbet, West Berkshire.

"Members of the Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue team, who have been assisting Thames Valley Police, located the deceased man at around 10.50pm last night.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, officers believe this to be the body of the missing man.

Supt James Hahn said: "Very sadly last night a body was discovered and we have informed Benjamin’s family of this.

"They are being offered support and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.

"The death is being treated as unexplained, but we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.

"We would like to thank the Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue Team who supported us in our search activity and the ongoing support they provide to the Force.”
