Bolts trainers dont get off the starters block at auction
Usain Bolt’s trainers were up for sale at Special Auction Services, based at New Greenham Park, but they didn’t sell.
The vendor wanted to sell the unused shoes after she won them in a raffle at a charity ball run by the Jamaica Society in Leeds.
The auction house’s estimated price was £4,000 to £5,000.
The lot also included the ball programme, newspaper articles about Bolt’s successes at the London 2012 Games, and a letter of thanks from the Office of the Jamaican High Commissioner in London to PACE Sports Management, which donated the items on behalf of the Olympic 100m and 200m gold medallist.
Sports auction consultant at SAS, Gary Arkwell, said: “The reason why we took this item in is because we are still in the boundaries of the Olympic year and Usain Bolt did wonderful things at the games.”
Mr Arkwell said it had not yet been decided if the lot would go under the hammer again or be returned to the owner.
