Book of Commitment in Newbury library this week
People urged to sign book this week ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day on Friday, January 27
VISITORS to Newbury Library are being urged to sign a Book of Commitment this week from today (Monday) ahead of the Holocaust Memorial Day on Friday (January 27).
The theme this year is ‘Speak Up, Speak Out', as West Berkshire Council is urging people to think about the rights, responsibility and duty they have to speak up when they see or hear something which they believe to be wrong.
West Berkshire's executive member for equality, Pamela Bale (Con, Pangbourne),said: “This year's theme is extremely strong.
“Speaking up is not always easy but it is something that we all can do to help make positive changes."
From January 30 until February 4, the West Berkshire Minority Ethnic Forum will hold an Anne Frank exhibition at the Kennet Centre between 9am and 6pm.
The exhibition tells the true story of the Jewish Frank family during the Second World War, in the context of the rise of Nazism and the Holocaust.
Guided tours will be available, and further information can be obtained from Marcia Perkin, Imperial War Museum Fellow in Holocaust Education, by emailing marcia.perkin@ntlworld.com
