Boost for West Berkshire railway stations
Government funding for improved accessibility in Thatcham, Theale, Pangbourne and Aldermaston
A NUMBER of railway stations across West Berkshire will benefit from improved accessibility after funding was donated by the Department for Transport.
Theale station has been awarded £1.25m towards a new bridge and three lifts, Pangbourne station will have 35 more car parking spaces, Thatcham station will have step free access to the ticket office and waiting shelters and Aldermaston station will have new waiting shelters and a new covered cycle store.
West Berkshire's executive member for planning, Alan Law (Con, Basildon), said: "I am delighted that the district will see such a range of benefits from these improvements. Better accessibility will have a positive impact for everyone using the stations."
Work at Pangbourne station is scheduled to start in the spring and the rest will be underway in the new year.
