Boules-la-la! £2,000 rolls in for Rotary
Charity fundraisers Newbury Rotary Club set up five boule rinks for their Boules in the Square tournament to kick-off at 10.30am.
Ten local business and community group teams competed for the trophy, which was awarded to Newbury Rotary A Team, who won every match they played. The runners-up were Regent Lettings, with Prestige Network a close third.
The president of Newbury Rotary Club, Will Job, said: “This is a wonderful example of how Rotary can work together with local businesses to create a really exciting and fun event, to light up the local community and raise funds for those in need at the same time.”
The mayor of Newbury, Jo Day, alongside young and old alike, had a go at the Closest to the Jack competition.
The tournament, endorsed by Newbury Town Council leisure and entertainment committee and Newbury BID and supported by more than 20 local businesses, raised just over £2,000, to be donated to Rotary nominated charities, including End Polio Now and Parkinsons UK (Newbury branch).
Barlows, Rivar Sand & Gravel and Buildbase provided materials to build the rinks, Dunedin Sports and Promotions supplied the tournament trophy and Apple Print designed and printed the event programmes.
