Bradfield College pupil dances her way into international competition
Bradfield College pupil Kia Lawrence, aged 14, will head to Riesa, Germany, with the rest of the England squad to compete in the International Dance Organization (IDO) World Tap Dance Championships 2014.
Kia, who has been dancing since the age of two, was one of hundreds to audition for a
space in prestigious dance school Tap Attack’s team earlier this year, and was one of just 38 to be successful.
What followed was an eight-hour rehearsal in Swindon with the rest of the team every Sunday in the run-up to the event.
She will now compete in the first round of the week-long competition, in the hopes of her team gaining a place in the quarter finals, semi-finals and then, ultimately, the final.
Her mother, Sheryl Lawrence, said: “It’s very, very competitive, they only take the best.
“A lot of them are senior dancers, Kia is one of the younger ones.
“We are exceptionally proud. It’s just amazing for her.
“It’s a wonderful experience and we can’t wait.
“She absolutely loves dancing and tap especially, tap’s her real love.”
