Bradfield pupil scores gold in international dance competition
Kia Lawrence, aged 14, was among the 38-strong team that represented the country in the International Dance Organization (IDO) World Tap Dance Championships 2014 in Riesa.
The week-long competition, which saw the squad go from strength to strength as they passed through the quarter-finals and semi-finals before being crowned champions, followed months of eight-hour Sunday rehearsals in Swindon with her teammates.
Speaking to the Newbury Weekly News when she returned home this week, Kia said: “The whole experience was amazing.
“Representing my country was such an honour and I was determined to do my best.
“After each round I felt we had done the best we could, although it's still incredibly nerve-wracking waiting for the results.
“When I found out we had won it was completely
overwhelming... it’s such a
completely unexplainable feeling, but definitely a
fantastic one.
“I will never forget standing on the podium watching the flag rise and proudly singing the national anthem.
“I love tap dancing more than anything and I want to be the best I can.”
