Break in causes disruption and damage to Scout Hut
An attempted break in to two community spaces in Thatcham caused disruption and damage to property.
The incident occurred at the Thatcham 2nd Scout Hut and Thatcham Bowling Club, on the Thatcham Memorial Fields, in the early hours of August 8.
The offenders managed to get inside the Scout Hut but were unsuccessful in making it into the bowling club.
Nothing was taken but the break-in to the Scout Hut amounted to hundreds pounds worth of damage.
This was the first incident of this nature in 25 years at the Thatcham Scouts.
A spokesperson for the community group said: “It was around 5.30am. They smashed a number of windows.
“A number of door locks have to be replaced. The incident actually disturbed a neighbour at 6am who then saw the offenders run away from the site.”
The police were contacted, have taken witness statements and are still appealing for information.
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “There was attempted break-in at the bowling club and a break-in at the Scout hut.
“The offenders broke into the Scout hut and conducted a search, but nothing was taken from either building.
“The offences were reported on the morning of August 8.”
He continued: “Thames Valley Police has obtained a number of witness statements, however if anyone has any information about the offences then we would urge them to contact the force.
