BREAKING NEWS - Man threatening to jump from a crane in Parkway
Police and emergency services are at the scene at Parkway shopping centre in Newbury, as well as a number of onlookers in Victoria Park.
Spokesman for Thames Valley Police, Adam Fisher said: “Thames Valley Police is currently dealing with a fear for welfare incident at the Parkway in Newbury.
“Police were called at 10.15am to an incident involving a man who had climbed up a crane and was threatening to jump.
“It is an ongoing incident and the area is currently cordoned off.“
Thames Valley Police have confirmed that its police officers are trying to persuade the man to come down from the crane.
A fire officer from Newbury fire station is also at the scene.
Eyewitnesses have reported that the man was shouting at passers by, shoppers and Parkway workers before he climbed the crane. Having been on the arm of the crane, he is now reported to be in the cab.
Newburytoday.co.uk reporter Mark Taylor who is at the scene said the man has started climbing down the crane twice before stopping and climbing back up to the top of the crane.
All the workers from Parkway have been evacuated.
