Bridge Street to open at 5pm tomorrow (Thurs)

The replacing of sunken paving slabs in Bridge Street, which links Bartholomew Street and Northbrook Street, has seen the bridge closed since Monday morning and has caused lengthy queues onto the A339 and across the town centre network, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours.
The work was expected to be finished by 5pm today (Wednesday), however West Berkshire Council spokeswoman Joanne Bassett said it was now likely to take a further day due to a poor weather forecast.
The Met Office has forecast almost continuous rain until 11pm.
Mrs Bassett said: “The block work on the approaches to the bridge had sunk.
“We are taking up and replacing the block work, repairing and strengthening the underlying road-base, adding cross bracing to further restrict the movement of the blocks and sealing the block work to prevent water getting in.
She added that the road would reopen to vehicles at 5pm tomorrow.
Have you been affected by the delays? How long has it added to your travel time?
