Bring it on: Hungerford council back to full strength
At a meeting earlier this month two candidates, Robert Brookman and Paul Whiting, introduced themselves but a third, Sarah Leach, was unable to attend due to illness.
At a subsequent meeting of the full council, a fully recovered Miss Leach told members: “I’m relatively new to Hungerford, having moved here 10 months ago. I just fell in love with the town.”
The 26-year-old, a business improvement manager with telecommunications giant Vodafone, said: “It’s a lovely area and, being new, I can see how beautiful it is. I love walking my dog on the common every day and won’t ever take that for granted.”
Miss Leach, whose hobbies include photography, dressmaking and baking, added: “I intend to settle here, raise a family... and collect more spaniels.”
She said afterwards: “My reason for applying to become a town councillor is that I want to contribute to civic life. I’ve always moved around so much before that I never called anywhere home for more than six months.
“I’ve finally bought my own flat and settled down and I wanted to give something back to the community.”
The meeting formally voted to co-opt all three candidates onto the council.
