British paralympian visits Newbury

Helena Lucas, who will be competing for Britain in the Paralympic Games in London this year, spoke to pupils at Park House School, Newbury, about her sailing career and her aims at the Paralympics.
This was followed by a visit to the local Volvo dealership, Fawcett’s Garage at Pinchington Lane, Newbury, to talk to their customers and guests.
Her visit is part of a nationwide tour organised by Volvo Car UK in which past and present sailing Olympians inform members of the public about sailing.
The 37-year-old said: “I was given such a warm welcome by the young people at the school and it was a wonderful opportunity for me to fly the flag for British sailing.
“I hope I have given them the inspiration to aim even higher in whatever they do, and that we will see some of them competing in the international sporting arena in years to come.
“It would be great to have as much support and backing from the British public as possible and I hope the tour helps turn people into armchair sailors.”
Fawcett’s Garage managing director Mark Jones added: “We were delighted to be a part of a day which will undoubtedly stay with these youngsters for the rest of their lives.
“It was an honour to meet Helena and we wish her and all the Team Volvo sailors the very best of luck in this summer; we will certainly be watching their progress very closely and we hope they win gold on home turf.”
