British sausage week goes with a banger

BRITISH Sausage Week has been celebrated by pupils at Thatcham Park, Hampstead Norreys, Brimpton and Lambourn primary schools.Special workshops were organised by the Newbury & District Agricultural Society, and its education officer, Jan Murray, said: “Sausages are often among children’s favourite foods, so they really enjoy learning more and having a chance to put their tastebuds to the test.”

The workshops were run by Mrs Murray and Pam Hillier-Brook, and included brainstorming different products to make sausages, tasting different meat, and vegetarian options.

There was also a talk on A Day in the Life of a Pig and a demonstration to make sausages which the children could later cook and taste.

After the workshop, Hampstead Norreys pupils made posters showing the sausage making process to display at school.

“It was a real eye-opener seeing the process from beginning to end,” said Alice Middleton from Hampstead Norreys Primary School.

British Sausage Week celebrates the sausage, a major food in the British diet, eaten by around five million Brits every day.
