Broken down freight train cancels services between Reading and Basingstoke, says Great Western Railway




Cancellations have been made to train services between Reading and Basingstoke today (Thursday).

Great Western Railway (GWR) said this is due to a broken down freight train which is blocking the line towards Reading.

All lines between Reading and Basingstoke are blocked.
All lines between Reading and Basingstoke are blocked.

Train services running through stations between Taunton and Reading may be delayed.

At around 9.52am GWR declared the train a failure.

This means a rescue train will be needed to move the freight train out of the way.

Disruption is expected until noon today.

GWR said: “We appreciate that this will have disrupted your travel plans, especially those on Advance purchase tickets.

“Please note that you will be able to use your ticket on a later train today.

“If you require any further assistance or information please speak to a member of train crew or station staff.

“Alternatively please use station help points where provided.”
