Bronze medal Olympian visits Newbury nursing home
The gymnastics bronze medalist went along to the Pound Street home to support BUPA's new initiative aimed at encouraging people to incorporate more walking into their daily lives.
Trying to ensure the Olympic legacy inspires all the generations, Whitlock joined residents, families and school children from The Winchcombe School on a nature trail round the care home’s grounds.
He then presented the winners with gold medals.
To add extra fun to the occasion some of the staff and residents dressed in fancy dress, including superman, a knight, Hawaiian costume and carer, Ian Barlow, who dressed as a baby girl.
Among the residents taking part was gold medal winner Winnie Dye, aged 89, who does daily walks around the home with the help of her walking frame, and keen sports fan Percy Mildenhall, aged 76.
