Brownie's get a helping hand from Red Watch on their quest for first aid badge
The trip helped the girls’ at 1st Thorngrove Brownies on their way to receiving their first aid badges by teaching them about the rescue services they can call on if there is an emergency.
Crew manager for Red Watch, Mike Wilson, taught the group the importance of checking smoke alarms regularly, demonstrated what happens at the fire station when an emergency call comes in and showed them a mock rescue of a person trapped in a fire.
The visit concluded with a close-up look at the fire engines and a chance to try on some of the firefighter’s gear and test out some of the equipment.
Brownie unit leader Sarah Worrall said: “Everyone enjoyed the chance to have a good look inside the vehicles as well as learning about the different types of rescue equipment which the engines carry.
“The advice imparted to the girls reinforced the importance of knowing what to do in the case of a fire,
“1st Thorngrove Brownies were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the rescue service and the time and effort put in by Red Watch.”
