Bucklebury beer festival among the highlights today




BUCKLEBURY beer festival is just one of the highlights of an action-packed start to the weekend today.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s home village will celebrate its fifth annual beer festival with a range of activities for the whole family from 12 noon on the Recreation Ground..
The popular free event attracted hundreds of guests and raised around £4,000 last year.
This year’s event will feature live music in the large marquee, with five-piece band Global Cafe Music bringing the festivities to a close with a set from 7-8pm.
It promises to be one of the biggest yet, with an expansion the farmer's market and more local trade stands.
There will also be more varieties of local beer and cider and a fun mix of games and activities for children, while guests attending will be able to take advantage of free parking on the day.
Funds raised by the event will support the on-going maintenance of the Victory Room.
Elsewhere, Newbury children's author Debbie Kelly will be at Waterstones in Northbrook Street to sign copies of her new book, The Bouncing Ball, from 11am until 3pm.
Newbury-based company Liberty Limited will be celebrating its relaunch with a party tonight from 7.45pm - Midnight. The event will feature music through the ages - from the 50's through Motown, Soul and Disco right up to the present day.
There is also a packed schedule of sporting action, with Newbury taking on Milton Keynes in the hockey at Henwick, Thatcham entertaining High Wycombe in the rugby and Newbury FC hosting Flackwell Heath in the football.
