Bucklebury deer safari among highlights of events today
ANIMALS, historical talks and sport will all feature in a packed line up of events in West Berkshire today.
Local people are invited to learn more about the history of Northbrook Street and the surrounding areas as part of the Newbury District Field Club’s History Day 2013.
The day of talks with a common theme: Northbrook Street (Newbury’s ‘High Street’) and the various lanes, courts and yards leading off it.
There will also be the chance to see Pig and Paper Day – an historic documentary film comparing and contrasting the production of the Newbury Weekly News in the 1950’s and the 1980’s.
It will open at 10am for registration and coffee, before the opening from the Mayor of Newbury, Anthony Pick.
As well as a range of talks, there will be an opportunity to consult the experts and, for those wanting a little exercise, at 4.15pm, a walk down Nortbrook Street with a local historian.
The event will be held at The Chequers Hotel, Oxford Street, Newbury with free parking for those attending.
Meanwhile, at Bucklebury Farm Park, animal lovers will be able to get up close and personal with deer at a special Autumn Deer Safari.
The dawn and dusk safaris run over two weekends in the spring and autumn. The safaris are tailored to small groups and give visitors unique access to the farm’s herd of Red, Japanese Sika, Axis and Fallow deer.
Visitors will be given new insight into the life of the herd as the drama of the rutting season unfolds.
There will be the option of welcome refreshments followed by a talk about the deer, a guided walk and park safari with the opportunity to take photographs followed by a ranger’s breakfast or a barbecue supper.
There is also rugby action as Hungerford host Bicester at Triangle Field.
