Bucklebury sends one final present to royal couple

Specially created mugs bearing the names of the happy couple are being sent to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

BUCKLEBURY has sent one final wedding present to the newly married Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - specially created mugs bearing the names of the happy couple.

Bucklebury Village Events commissioned pottery firm Emma Bridgewater to design and create the mugs, with a number given to everyone aged under 16 in Bucklebury in celebration of the marriage of Kate Middleton, the daughter of a Chapel Row family, to Prince William.

The mug, created by Matthew Rice, the husband of Emma Bridgewater, combines Bucklebury's emblem of an oak leaf with a Kate and William design.

An initial production run of 500 proved to be insufficient as demand for the sponge painted hand-decorated items soared, and the events committee has said it sold around 2,000 so far, with another 250 on order.

No more orders are being taken.

The free mugs for the children of Bucklebury will be handed out on Friday (20) from 9am to 4.30pm and Saturday from 9am to noon at All Saints Church, Upper Bucklebury.
