Buddies gets a boost
New chairman of West Berkshire Council selects Buddies as his chosen charity this year
THE NEW chairman of West Berkshire Council has selected his chosen charity for the year.
Peter Argyle (Con Calcot) has chosen West Berkshire charity, Buddies, to benefit from his many fundraising events throughout his year in office.
The charity aims to ensure all children and young people aged between five and 18 have equal access to leisure opportunities
Run by a voluntary management committee of local people, Buddies employs a development officer to recruit, train and support volunteers, liaise with local leisure providers and raise awareness of the charity.
Matthew Charters, chairman of the charities' committee said they were "very pleased" that Mr Argyle was supporting Buddies.
"We look forward to meeting Mr Argyle and plan to invite him to many of our own events throughout the year," said Mr Charters.
Mr Argyle said he was pleased to support the charity: "They not only provide young people with disabilities with interesting activities but they also provide those vital short breaks for their families too."
Mr Argyle is scheduled to attend a group bowling event at Lakeside Superbowl in Lower Way, Thatcham, at 5.30pm next Wednesday (July 6).
Many of the children Buddies supports and their volunteer buddies have been invited to attend.
