Buggy racing comes to Newbury (home of the European champ!)




NEWBURY can add the European remote-control buggy racing champion to its list of home-grown sporting talent.

A former pupil of the Clere School, Burchlere, Lee Martin, was recently crowned champion of Europe again, adding to three previous titles and securing his place as the UK’s top off-road buggy racer.

Taking a break from his frequent jetting off around the world as a professional racing expert Mr Martin returned to his hometown this week to launch a new venture aimed at getting youngsters into the burgeoning activity.

Model Cars Reading has set up a premises in New Greenham Business Park, and aside from the models on sale the team behind the venture have set up a track inside the business park to host weekly competitions for beginners.

The owner of Model Cars, Lewis Embling, said: “The track has been set up to serve the remote-control community with a emphasis on attracting local interest in particular from juniors.

“The type of racing will be mainly buggies. We would like to get as many young people involved as possible. We will be running club racing each Wednesday night doors open 4pm and racing starts 7.30pm.

"We will also be running Saturday practice sessions when novices will be welcome to either come and test there car on the track or we can hire a car to them.”
