Building society boost for two local charities
Customer donations at the society’s Barthlolomew Street branch, Newbury, contributed to the fundraising for Macmillan last year. In addition, branch assistant David Taylor took part in last year’s Bayer 10k run, raising £231, making a total of £506 for the charity.
The chairwoman of Macmillan Cancer Support Newbury Committee, Erica Tipton, said that they were most appreciative of the society’s support.
“Not only do you publish our events and sponsor our annual mailing, but to have the individual support of the staff means a lot to us – you, along with us, are part of the community,” she added.
The Thatcham branch of the society also raised £731 for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, through customer donations and a three-week staff competition.
Donations to the air ambulance, including those by the building society, have assisted the charity to extend its service, by increasing flying hours from eight to 12, having a doctor on call and transporting blood supplies.
