'Bullfest' boosts funds for leukaemia charity

Staff and customers at Stanford Dingley pub raise money in memory of former employee

STAFF and customers from The Bull Inn at Stanford Dingley have raised £1,670 in memory of a former employee who died from leukaemia.

To raise the money, the pub came up with the idea of Bullfest – a one-day festival of music, real ale, a traditional cider bar, barbecue and a hog roast.

All the proceeds will benefit CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for supporting children and young people, and their families.

Calum MacKenzie used to work at The Bull Inn, before he died two years ago, aged 19. He had been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia less than 18 months before.

Laura Maton, from The Bull Inn, said: “Calum worked at The Bull for several years before he became ill and was a ray of sunshine, always chirpy, smiling and happy to be at work.

“He made good friends here and was a key member of our team, who is sorely missed, but fondly remembered.

“It is our absolute pleasure to help raise funds in his memory, to a cause which his family feel they could not have done without.”

CLIC Sargent fundraising manager for Hampshire and Berkshire, Liz Blunt, said: “I know how much hard work goes into making a successful event and it sounds like Bullfest at The Bull Inn was a hugely enjoyable evening.

“Calum’s family and friends are truly inspiring and they have made such a wonderful contribution to CLIC Sargent.

“I would like to thank all the staff at The Bull Inn and Calum’s amazing family and friends for raising a total, so far, of £12,527 for CLIC Sargent in Calum’s name.

“Every penny raised will help provide vital support for children and young people with cancer, and their families.”
