Bungalow blaze in Long Lane

Four pumps from Newbury and Reading stations were called to the fire at Berry Cottage, Long Lane, at 5am this morning after a fire broke out in the bedroom.
The occupant escaped with minor injuries to his hand.
Speaking at the scene Station Manager and Fire Investigation Officer, Trig Thomas, said there was significant damage to the bedroom and an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the fire.
Neighbour, Nicola Hillier, said that she had heard a 'popping noise' and she and her husband had woken their children.
"Out the back is atrocious. The windows have been blown out and there's a burnt bed in the garden," she said.
Firefighters left the scene at 10am.
