Burghclere playground equipment affected by fallen fir tree
A PLAYGROUND in Burghclere remained partially fenced off this week, after a fallen fir tree damaged equipment.
At a Burghclere Parish Council meeting on Monday evening (April 7), parish councillor Cliff James gave a report on the incident, on February 14, when a 70ft fir tree (pictured), came down in high winds and damaged a horizontal ladder in the playground, next to the Portal Hall in the village.
The tree also damaged overhead electricity cables, bending the supporting poles and stretching the cable and this was partially cleared by chairman of the parish council, Chris Saint and his son, who removed the tree branches.
Mr James said: “We rang Southern Electric at 8am and by 8.45am they had cleared the tree from the cable and made it safe.”
