Burghclere secondary school gymnast scoops international gold medal

And now she is set to jet off to the United States with the Great Britain team next month.
Alicia Cox, a year nine pupil at The Clere School, Earlstone Common, travelled with the GB squad at the beginning of September to the ninth International Trampoline, Double Mini Trampoline and Tumbling competition, held in the city of Loule in Portugal.
She came first in the 13 to 14-year-old girls category of the tumbling event, returning home with a gold medal.
Alicia, aged 13, also triumphed at the selection meeting for the Tumbling World Championship, held at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre, near Newport, Shropshire, and as a result, will be flying out with the GB team to the World Championships in America next month.
A spokeswoman for The Clere School said: “Everyone would like to wish her every success in the competition.
“Her parents do a superb job supporting her and getting her where she needs to be, and they say they are extremely proud of her dedication, hard work and success.”
Alicia, from Hurstbourne Tarrant, who trains five days a week, is to undertake extra training with the GB team in Lilleshall, a three-hour drive from her home.
Lilleshall is among the UK’s National Sports Centres, training grounds and centres of excellence for the country’s leading sportsmen and women.
