No to 32 new homes as near AWE
Plans to build 32 homes on a field in Burghfield have been turned down.
West Berkshire Council said the proposed development, off Regis Manor Road, didn’t have enough affordable housing.
The site also sits in the designated protection zone for AWE Burghfield, and was rejected on the grounds of public safety being compromised with additional population should an incident occur at the nuclear weapons site.
It was also rejected for the potential loss of trees and a lack of space to replace any that would be lost.
The developers said the proposed design for the site had been created to form a logical extension to the recently constructed residential development.
Around 20 objections were lodged with the council from residents – many from the new development – saying they bought the properties as a family-friendly cul-de-sac and not as a through road to another estate.
