Burglars target Kingsclere church
Intruders target a safe at St Mary's church and make off with cash
A SAFE is believed to have been targeted by burglars at a Kingsclere church last night (Sunday).
According to Hampshire police, the burglary happened sometime overnight at St Mary's church and it was officially reported to the police at 7.46am this morning (Monday).
"It seems cash and other valuable items have been taken," said Vicky O'Hare, a spokeswoman for the force, adding that police and church officials were still working out exactly what had been taken.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the burglary, or anyone who may have heard anything suspicious during the night.
"The church is in a central position in the village, if anyone heard anything suspicious, such as banging noises, they should report it to police," said Ms O'Hare.
Anyone who saw or heard anything possibly connected with the above incident should contact the officer in charge of the case, Pc Rod Kenny, at Basingstoke Police Station, by telephoning 101.
