Burst pipe affects 50 Tilehurst homes
Christmas Eve water woe for homes across Tilehurst after burst pipe causes hours of disruption
FIFTY homes in the Tilehurst area had their water supply disrupted on Christmas Eve (Saturday) after a large underground pipe burst and flooded a street.
Thames Water spokeswoman Natalie Slater said initial estimates were of around 2,500 homes across the area affected but that number was soon whittled down as the source of the problem, a ruptured nine inch pipe in Warborough Avenue, was located.
“It was a very big pipe, repairs were carried out and water was restored to the properties at around 7.30pm after a few hours without water.”
She said one property had been severely affected by the incident and flooded internally, and that Thames Water had returned the next day to clean up.
“We are really sorry and apologise to all those affected by the problem,” she added.
