Burst water main fixed - but hundreds of households without water

Properties in post code areas RG14, RG18 and RG20 are known to be affected, with either no water or low water pressure.
Thames Water has told Newbury Today that the pipe has been fixed and work has begun to put water back through it and refill the reservoir.
However, the company has said that this will take some time and it will be several hours before everyone’s water pressure return to normal.
Cold Ash St Marks Primary is partially closed, only open to years five and six until lunchtime when it will completely close. Hermitage Primary School is completely closed today. Cold Ash pre-school, which operates from Acland Hall, is also closed. Priors Court School has been affected but is not closed.
Bottled water is available for affected residents to collect from the Castle Inn, Cold Ash Hill, Holly Lodge, Bucklebury Alley, The Green, opposite Staddlestones, The Ridge and at the junction of Manor Farm, Cold Ash.
Thames Water said that they worked through the night to try to fix the issue, which first became apparent at around 3pm yesterday (Wednesday).
Thames Water spokeswoman Becky Trotman said this morning (Thursday): "A pipe supplying to our Cold Ash reservoir burst yesterday, leaving some of our customers without water.
"We’ve been working through the night to fix the problem.
"Work continues and we’re doing all we can to get water back on as soon as possible."
Last night, they Tweeted: "We're working as fast as we can to fix the pipe & using tankers to bring water into the area."
At 6am this morning the water firm said they had almost completed the repair, adding that it was likely, however, to take several hours to reconnect the supply.
Thames Water's website says that the company hopes to restore water supplies by 4.19pm today (Thursday).
One affected resident, who asked not to be named, said: "I didn't know anything until I was putting the water in the pan for my spaghetti last night.
"Nobody contacted us. I rang them and they said it was affecting around 9,000 properties and to refer to their website, but there's no information on their website.
"For me it's inconvenient, but I have got an elderly couple that live opposite me. They've got no water, no heating...they're not very mobile."
Another resident, who lives in Sycamore Rise, Shaw, and wished to remain anonymous, added: "We have been without water, but no bottled water has been provided.
"For people like me that don't drive or the elderly or infirm we are unable to collect from Hermitage, despite several phone calls we have still not been supplied."
She added shortly after 11.30am that Thames Water had arranged to get water delivered to her.
