Businesses nominated for Rural Oscars
The Pot Kiln pub in Frilsham, owned by television chef Mike Robinson and his wife Kate, has been nominated for the local food award while the Cold Ash Post Office and Store could scoop best village shop and post office after being named South East finalists.
Known as the Rural Oscars, the awards aim to support and promote rural communities and to acknowledge the efforts of thousands of unsung heroes who routinely go above and beyond the call of duty for their communities.
The Countryside Alliance said it had long felt the "doom and gloom" about dwindling services, a collapsing farming sector and the death of village life did not accurately reflect the spirit of rural people and their desire to protect landscapes, heritage and communities for future generations.
Other categories include butcher and start-up business.
The grand final will be held at the Houses of Parliament in April.
