Businesses promoting healthy eating to receive awards
The ten outlets across West Berkshire are to be officially recognised for encouraging healthy eating. They are to be presented with certificates at West Berkshire Council’s Nature Discovery Centre, Thatcham, on Tuesday June 12.
The accolades are being awarded under a scheme called ‘Eat Out, Eat Well, developed by the council to reward caterers who make it easy for customers to make healthy choices from menus.
The awards take into account the type of food, cooking methods, and how the meals are promoted, with restaurants, cafes, hotels, workplace and hospital canteens, pubs and take-aways likely to be eligible.
The council is also offering nutrition training at a discount. The six hours of training, spread over two weeks, is being offered at £30 rather than the usual £69 cost. Email ehadvice@westberks.gov.uk for details.
The certificates will be presented by West Berkshire Council Executive Councillor, Hilary Cole, (Con Chieveley) , who said it was an excellent scheme, adding:
“Those who need to watch their diets can eat out in confidence, knowing there will be something on the menu that is of real quality and healthy and nutritious, too.”
Healthy food will also be on offer to try at the awards presentation.
