Berkshire Army Cadets visit Norway to undergo winter training programme

A group of Berkshire Army Cadets visited Scandinavia as part of a unique opportunity to enhance their abilities in an Arctic environment.

A group of 30 cadets aged 15 to 19, along with 10 adult volunteers, spent over a week in Norway undergoing the Norwegian Home Guard Youth’s basic training programme.

The intensive course focuses on key military skills, including tactical use of terrain in both daylight and darkness, operating in the field for extended periods, and essential winter survival techniques.

The Berkshire cadets were in Norway from February 14 to 23, and they spent most of their time at Haslemoen Camp in Leivegen, a former airfield and military base around two hours north east of the capital Oslo.

For many, the trip was a chance to reconnect with Norwegian cadets from HV02, whom the Berkshire cadets trained alongside last August during a joint training exercise back in the UK.

This long-standing exchange, which began in 1992, has allowed generations of cadets from both nations to strengthen ties while gaining rare and valuable training experiences.
